Saint-Emilion
Favorably situated on the right bank of the famed Dordogne, the prized Saint-Émilion wine-growing region spreads over 5,400 hectares and is heralded as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The fine wines of Saint-Émilion are typically blended from three distinguished grape varieties, Merlot dominating at 60% followed by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The excellent climate and diverse soil ensure a slower maturity for fine wines, which in consequence, can be enjoyed exquisitely young for a Bordeaux. In favorable vintages the wines have an excellent aging potential.
Since 1955, there has been a classification of Saint-Émilion fine wines. As of 2012, the classification includes Château Angélus, Château Ausone, Château Cheval Blanc and Château Pavie (1er grand cru classé A).
