The United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world. Spreading its great wings, America has been impressively producing sublime fine-wines for over 300 years. Today, it’s esteemed that California accounts for 89 percent of all US wine.
Today, Napa Valley is considered a prized American Viticultural Area (AVA) of outstanding natural beauty. Nearly 400 wineries produce fine-wines from 47,000 acres of vineyards. The famous Sonoma Valley boasts three official wine-growing regions, Sonoma Country, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. With vineyards extending from Los Carneros in the South to Alexander Valley in the north, the excellent climate and prime soils of Sonoma offer a broader variety of wines than any other fine-wine producing region in California. Sonoma Valley excels with many diverse grape varieties, but its two most renowned are Pinot Noir and Zinfandel. Sonoma’s most famous wineries include Gallo Family Wineries, Kendall-Jackson, Korbel, Simi, Sebastiani, Jordan and Gloria Ferrer.
Opus One Winery, a luxury winery in Oakville, California, is the success story of two very established businessmen: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi.
