Beaujolais wines
Famous for its Gamay varietal wines who are known for their lighter bodies, low tannins and hints of acidity due to thin skin grapes.
Beaujolais wines are usually very fruit forward and meant to be consumed in their younger days, which later became a marketing strategy to sell “primeur” wine, also known as Beaujolais Nouveau.
Today, Beaujolais still dominates the light and fruity wine market and sells about a third of the region’s production as Beaujolais Nouveau.
Beaujolais is separated into 3 different wine producing subregions; Beaujolais AOC, Beaujolais-Villages AOC and Cru Beaujolais. Among these, Cru Beaujolais is naturally the most prestigious, with ten crus having their own AOC, all located in the northern part of Beaujolais; Saint-Amour, Juliénas, Chénas, Moulin-à-Vent, Fleurie, Chiroubles, Morgon, Régnié, Brouilly, and Côte de Brouilly.
