Château Haut-Brion
Boasting one of the finest histories of any Bordeaux vineyard, Chateau Haut-Brion derives its name from an ancient Celtic term Briga meaning a “rise in the land”.
Located within the city, in the Graves wine-growing region of Bordeaux, the vineyard’s earliest documents date back to 1521, when the estate was known as Aubrion. This makes Chateau Haut-Brion the oldest, working winery and luxury brand in Bordeaux to date.
Impressively, Château Haut-Brion is the sole First Growth Classified fine wine not located within the Médoc appellation of the prestigious 1855 Classification. With deep gravel over clay and sand soil, and a wide variety of minerals and quartz, the vineyards are excellently placed on high gravel slopes. The estate produces red and white fine wines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot Noir, and Cabernet franc red grape varieties and Sémillon, Sauvignon white grapes.
Château Haut-Brion is now administrated by Prince Robert of Luxembourg, also General Manager of Domaine Clarence Dillon.
