Côte-Rôtie

Located in the popular northern Rhône region, the vineyards of the esteemed Côte-Rôtie "the roasted slope" refer to the long hours of sunlight they receive contributing to the region’s successful wine producing reputation.

According to legend the two sub-regions, Côte Blonde and Côte Brune, were named after brown and blond hair-colored daughters of a local lord, both of which had very different personalities. Similarly, the wines of both regions are renowned to have supremely different characteristics.

The region enjoys a continental climate. Its iron-rich soils produce outstanding red wines, made from Syrah grapes and also the white Viognier grape variety. Côte-Rôtie is one of the few wine appellations that allow white wine grapes to be used in a blend of red fine wines.

The most prestigious vineyards in Côte-Rôtie include; La Chatillone, La Chevalière, La Garde, La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque (Guigal LALALA).
