Toscana IGT

Toscana IGT is the most famous of Italy's Indicazione Geografica Tipica (IGT) titles. Located on Italy’s idyllic western coast, Toscana borders the Mediterranean Tyrrrhenian Sea and is home to Italy’s most prestigious wines, including Brunello di Montalcino and the super-Tuscan fine wines.

Italy’s fine-wine renaissance started in Tuscany in the early 1970’s. Toscana IGT fine wines can be made in any of Tuscany's 10 prestigious provinces; Arezzo, Firenze, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa Carrara, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena.

With a mixed terrain of mountains, hills and high altitudes, Toscana produces outstanding fine wines, heralding the Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties. Trebbiano, Vernaccia and Chardonnay grape varieties are prized for producing white fine-wines.

Some of the favourite super-Tuscan wines include Brancaia, Cabreo II Borgo, Camartina, Masseto, Sassicia, Triganello and La Vigna di Alceo and the famous Chianti DOCG wine growing region.
