Opus One
Opus One Winery, a luxury winery in Oakville, California, is the realized dream of two eminent men: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi.
With a joint goal of creating a single Bordeaux style blend based upon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, the genesis of Opus One fine wines can be traced to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Hawaii where Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild met for the very first time and began their collaboration to merge old world and new world wine styles.
The Opus One Winery represents a physical manifestation of the founders shared vision for a marriage of two cultures, in the pursuit of a wine of sheer quality.
The estate’s vineyards are on the western portion of the renowned Oakville AVA. Two parcels, totaling 100 acres, are within the famed To Kalon Vineyard and 70 acres of the Ballestra and River parcels, which envelop the winery.
Winemaker, Michael Silacci, combines intuition and expertise with the dual perspective of viticulturist and winemaker to create some of the finest vintages including: 1997, 2007, 2010, and 2013.
