Vacqueyras
Along the banks of the Ouvèze River, Vacqueyras AOC is primarily a red wine region, but also produces some whites and rosés. Considered a relative to the appellations Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas, this AOC boast some of the most prestigious and high quality wines from the Rhone region.
Protected by the Dentelles de Montmirail mountain range, the Vacqueyras village benefits from diverse soils and terroirs; pebbles, fine sand, clay, marls, safres, gravel, and white limestone. The main grape varieties in this appellation include Mourvèdre, Syrah and black Grenache.
Some of the best producers in this AOC include Domaine de la Charbonnière, Domaine de la Colline Saint-Jean, Domaine Montirius, Domaine de la Garrigue, Domaine le Couroulu, and Château des Tours.
