Saint-Julien
Covering an intimate 910 hectares and owing its name to the historical Saint-Julien-Beychevelle commune, the mighty Saint-Julien nestles itself between the six supreme Médoc appellations. It boasts 85% of its land classified in the 1855 classification of the Medoc, more than any other.
Saint-Julien’s vineyards rest on a bed of sedimentary rock, the subsoil is extraordinarily complex and is the reason why its fine wines vary so much in character. The grape varieties are predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carménère.
An impressive number of classified second growth estates are located within the appellation. Including the renowned Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, Château Léoville-Las Cases, Château Gruaud-Larose, Château Léoville-Poyferré, Château Léoville-Barton, Château Lagrange, Château Langoa-Barton, Château Talbot, Château Saint-Pierre, and Château Beychevelle.
