Pétrus wine

The legendary Château Pétrus is the most famous wine of the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux.

Madame Loubat, owner of Chateau Latour in Pomerol, and Jean-Pierre Moueix are credited with the fame of this exceptional wine producer. Pétrus’ small vineyard of 11.42 hectares produces only 30,000 bottles a year, which remain in high international demand.

The famed reference book Cocks & Féret mentions Pétrus in 1886 as being one of the finest wines of Pomerol. Praised by Henri Soulé, owner of the restaurant Le Pavillon in New York, Robert Parker’s ceaseless high scores also catapulted Pétrus into the spotlight.

Perched at the summit of the highest hill of Pomerol, it’s the only vineyard entirely composed of rare blue clay soil. Each vintage is then the result of an exceptional terroir combined with extreme care.

The grapes grown here are 100% Merlot. Pétrus’ wine-maker, Jean-Claude Berrouet, is considered a genius of oenology. The famed Émile Peynaud was also employed as a consultant oenologist at this acclaimed estate.

The best vintages are: 1929, 1945, 1947, 1961, 1964, 1982, 1989, 1990, 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2010.
