Rhône Valley wines
The Rhône Valley is the oldest wine region in France.
The northern part is characterized by its vertiginous hills and granitic soils. Syrah (Shyraz) reigns over the Rhone Valley producing intense, robust and deep violet colored red wine, while Viognier (Condrieu) brings delicacy and smoothness to white wines. The most prestigious appellations are Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Condrieu and Cornas.
The southern part of the Rhône Valley is where the Syrah and Grenache grape varieties prosper under a generous sun. This is where the famous fine wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape are made.
Jean-Louis Chave, Chapoutier, Jaboulet, E.Guigal, Château de Beaucastel and Château Rayas all represent giants in the luxury producer range of the Rhône Valley.
