Pessac-Léognan
Owing its name to its extraordinary terrain, Pessac Léognan covers 1,199 hectares and is situated in the northern part of the acclaimed Graves region of Bordeaux. This is an area wine historians cite as the place the Romans first planted grapes to produce Bordeaux’s fine wines close to 2,000 years ago.
Pessac-Léognan lays claim to the only red-wine producer outside the Haut-Médoc classified in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, the premier cru of the illustrious Château Haut-Brion. As well as all the hailed 1953 classified Graves Growths, including the notable Château La Mission Haut-Brion and Château Laville Haut-Brion (become Mission Haut-Brion Blanc in 2009).
Pine trees often separate vineyards in this area, sheltering the grapes from humidity and winds and creating a perfect microclimate. The esteemed soil of Pessac-Léognan is composed of gravel with extraordinary sediments of differing geological eras.
Pessac-Léognan is famed for both its red and white fine wines; the reds are predominantly a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The white fine wines champion a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon grapes.
