Musigny Grand Cru
Musigny is an esteemed wine-growing region and Grand Cru vineyard in the prestigious Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. Located within the commune of Chambolle-Musigny, to the south of the village itself, Musigny borders on the Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, Échezeaux and the Premier Cru; Les Amoureuses.
The name is derived from the family de Musigny who held office in the court of the Dukes of Burgundy from the 14th century. The prestigious AOC was created in 1936. The region is famed for its production of luxury red wines, of which the choicest grape varieties are Pinot noir and Chardonnay for white fine-wines.
With a steep rocky limestone terrain of Jurassic origin, the soils are enriched by red clay. The most esteemed producers of the region include Mugnier, Roumier, Vogüé, Domaine Leroy and Domaine Tawse.
