Chevalier Montrachet
Montrachet is a legendary and superior wine growing region and Grand Cru vineyard in the Côte de Beaune sub region of Burgundy. Nestled on the southern most tip, the region borders the prestigious communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet and produces, what many consider, to be the greatest and most expensive dry white wine in the world.
Impressively, the Montrachet appellation was first planted to grapes in the Middle Ages. Pierre and Arnolet de Puligny gifted wines in Mont Rachaz to the Abbey of Maizières in 1252. Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet were famously recognized as AOC Grands Crus in 1937.
Unlike other Burgundy fine wines, Montrachet is composed exclusively of Chardonnay. Boasting a Jurassic geology, with an excellent elevation, Montrachet’s prized soils are a mix of limestone, clay and fine stones.
