Château Duhart-Milon
Located on the picturesque west side of the prestigious Château Lafite Rothschild estate, Château Duhart-Milon spans 76 hectares of vine in the beautiful Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux. Due to the proximity of the two estates, a single team manages both prized classified châteaux.
Château Duhart-Milon is classified as Fourth Growth from the historic Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. The estate produces an exquisite second wine, Moulin de Duhart.
Originally known simply as ‘Chateau Milon’, the owner of neighboring Lafite at that time was the Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Segur; coined by King Louis XV as The Wine Prince. The Milon vineyards were thought of as excellent, but not superior to Lafite, which is how the wine came to be thought of the prestigious second wine for Lafite.
The soil is fine gravel mixed with sand on a bed of limestone subsoil, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varieties. The average age of the vines is 30 years. The property enjoys a maritime climate typical of the Médoc appellation, with the Gironde estuary acting as a climate regulator and the coastal pine forests sheltering the vines from the westerly winds.
