Bordeaux wine region
“A vineyard without history is probably a vineyard without a future”.
Vines have been present in Bordeaux since the Classical era, and more specifically ever since the Romans introduced them into the region mid-1st century.
Some of the world's greatest, prestigious and most expensive red wines are produced on this terroir, considered by some, as the most favorable for fine wines.
This is the land of classified growths also known as “Grands Crus Classes” (Bordeaux’s 1855 Wine Classification; Classification of Saint-Emilion and Classification of Graves wine) and the most notorious appellations (AOC) such as Margaux, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, Saint-Julien, Pomerol, Saint-Emilion, Pessac-Léognan and Sauternes all conglomerate to form the Bordeaux region.
Some Estates produce fine wines, which are synonymous with luxury and prestige: Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Pétrus, Château Mouton Rothschild, Château d'Yquem, Château Haut Brion or Château Angélus.
Bordeaux’s fine wines benefit from outstanding soils made up of deep gravels on the left bank and clay-limestone on the right bank, on which Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc varietals thrive.
